Nomvula Phangisa is a professional Interior Designer, strongly linked to property developers. She is a social entrepreneur who is innovating and currently leading in the off-campus student accommodation space.

Nomvula started her career at the age of 16 as a receptionist then gained wide experience in a number of roles and sectors. She worked for a dental practice, Independent Development Trust, Vodacom, Hunt Lascaris Advertising Agency, True Love Magazine, Bona and Pace Magazine and South African Council for Architects.

In 2009 Nomvula ventured into the Interior Decor and Design industry where she built a career and specialized in corporate design, building maintenance and management. In 2016 she found herself turning her attention to student accommodation and transformed the space into a healthy and safe place. She further got deeply involved with student affairs, an area that has become close to her heart.

Nomvula is the director and owner of Kings Student Accommodation in Port Elizabeth which accommodates 480 students from Nelson Mandela University. She is known as the “Mother of the Nation” or MS P amongst her students. She recently turned Kings into a specialised residence dedicated for first year students. With a focus on smooth and easy transitioning into university life, student skills development, mental health, mentorship, entrepreneurial skills, social skills and support in academic excellence.

Her passion towards the student affairs and the dedication towards their well-being has earned her the following certificates and awards for the last 3 years since 2017. Service Provider of the year, Residence of the Year, Excellent Achievement Off-Campus Residence 1st place, Living and Learning Practices 1 st place and Student Leaders of the year.

Nomvula has founded the Council for learners and students in Africa, a platform that supports learners, students, empowers parents, educators, and caregivers that intend to go beyond the borders to merge and exchange cultures, life experiences and teachings. The Council seeks to lobby all the relevant governments to tackle social issues preventing learners and students from excelling emotionally, socially, mentally and academically.

Nomvula is also a founder of “I am the Future Foundation,” an organisation that talks to a girl child and is also in partnership with Smart Management Consulting whose role is to manage and regulate the student accommodation space.

A single mother to three herself, Nomvula founded an organization called “Being a Single Mom”, made up of a team of people who have a heart for helping moms in crisis and are eager to rewrite their stories of struggle into testimonies of triumph.
